Chagrin Valley Hunt Hunter Trials

July 13, 2017

Chargrin Valley Hunt Hunter Trials, July 1st, 2017

July kicks off at the Chargrin Valley Hunt Club Hunter Trials,  where everyone enjoyed a great day! The ring dried up fairly quickly, after a night of heavy rain and flood warnings. It was a 10am start with overcast skies and the temperature was perfect for horses and riders.  We were treated to a Hound Parade and a field-side lunch while the tailgaters marked the event with antique trucks, classic sports cars outfitted with Champagne, and Port.  At some polo clubs as well as Foxhunting clubs, tailgating is where spectators park their vehicles by the field and set out picnic blankets and lawn chairs to watch the event. At the Chagrin Valley they go all out with an incredible array of food and wine, port, champagne,  with silver candelabra’s, flower arrangements crystal glasses and fine china.

The Chagrin Valley Hunt, Founded over 100 years ago during the region’s booming industrial era, the Hunt Club’s history began on the banks of the Chagrin River in a rustic tavern that served as a meeting house for a handful of ardent fox hunting enthusiasts escaping the city bustle.

Now, the modern Chagrin Valley Hunt Club offers fine dining, event and meeting facilities, court and platform tennis, and a newly-renovated outdoor swimming pool on a lush 15 ½ acre campus, which also includes the Chagrin Valley Hunt foxhound kennels and Chagrin Valley Stables horse boarding and riding facilities.

The History of the Chagrin Valley Hunt Club can be found on their website:

The Chagrin Valley Hunt Club’s heritage has been captured in numerous sources including The Encyclopedia of Cleveland History.

Thank you to Big Dee's Tack & Vet Supplies for their generous support of the Hunter Trials
